DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — The 2010 Los Angeles Art Show is an overwhelming collection of art styles. Casual attendees may find themselves distracted by listening to dealers network with collectors. The event's prestige, despite other art fairs opening in Los Angeles, has stayed intact thanks to the heavy representation from international artists and galleries.

Organizers report that 3,500 attended the show's opening night VIP reception gala. They expect a good crowd this upcoming weekend before the show closes Sunday.

This year's show spotlights the Uruguyan art world, and the collective curated by Gustavo Tabares, Coordinator of the Visual Arts Program at the Dirreccion Nacional de Cultura, can easily take up most if your visit.

With its full program of lectures, exhibitions, and performances, a visit to the show may be the best way to monitor the pulse of the international art scene so close to home, while staying dry at the same time.

Catching my eye was a piece that shows what may become a new icon of Los Angeles: the taco truck.

Auction 2010

Auction 100, presented by Laguna Art Museum, will take place Saturday, February 6, 2010, and will feature 100 works of art from 100 premiere California artists.

Art Auction Preview: January 30 – February 5, 2010
You are invited to preview the exhibition from Saturday, January 30 through Friday, February 5, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Laguna Art Museum, or view our online gallery.

Auction: February 6, 2010
The auction will take place on Saturday, February 6, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. A buffet, cocktails, music, and curbside valet parking are included with the price of admission.

Tickets are $125 for Museum Members and $150 for Non-members.

Post-Auction: February 7, 2010
Any works unsold will be available in a post-auction on Sunday, February 7, 2010.

A workshop by Los Angeles Artist Scott Yeskel exploring themethods and ideas of contemporary Abstract Painting. Yeskel derives his inspiration from the Landscape and incorporates thick layers of oil paint to come up with abstract imagery of cities, atmosphere, structures and masses. The workshop will cover how to use a photographic reference to start your painting, how to work ala prima with oils, and how to know when a piece is complete. Various Demos will be performed as well as a brief talk about Yeskel’s work and inspiration. Acrylic paints can be used in place of oils. Material list will be provided before the first class. No Class 11/25.

Fees: $120. ºº I am also continuing to teach a workshop at Paint Lab in Santa Monica on Tuesday as well various private workshops throughout L.A. and Orange County. Its been great and I am always looking for new students!
